Pesticide Registrations and Actions

Food Related Actions

  • The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has approved a significant new use for fenbuconazole (Enable® 2F) fungicide on citrus fruit.  It was effective 8/3/07.  (FDACS PREC Agenda, 9/6/07). 
  •  The FDACS has approved a Special Local Needs (SLN) registration for the use of imidacloprid (Provado®) applied by low pressure chemigation in watercress.  The registration is FL-070004.  (FDACS letter of 8/30/07). 
  •  Based on a request by Dupont, the EPA has approved tolerances for the herbicide rimsulfuron (Matrix®).  Tolerances of importance in Florida include citrus and stone fruit.  (Federal Register, 8/1/07).
  •  Based on a request by Bayer CropScience, the EPA has approved tolerances for the herbicide pyrasulfotole.  Tolerances of importance in Florida include oat, rye, and wheat.  (Federal Register, 8/15/07).
  •  Based on a request by BASF, the EPA has approved tolerances for the insecticide fipronil.  Tolerances of importance in Florida include potato and wheat.  (Federal Register, 8/22/07).
  •  Based on a request by Dow AgroSciences, the EPA has approved tolerances for the insecticide spinosad (Spintor®).  Tolerances of importance in Florida include fish, shellfish, and mollusc.  (Federal Register, 8/29/07).
  •  Based on a request by IR-4, the EPA has approved tolerances for the insecticide lambda-cyhalothrin (Karate®/Warrior®).  Tolerances of importance in Florida include grass for forage/fodder/hay (group 17), oat, rye, cucurbit vegetables (group 9), and tuberous and corm vegetables (subgroup 1C).  (Federal Register, 8/15/07).
  •  Based on a request by IR-4, the EPA has bananaapproved tolerances for the insecticide pyriproxyfen (Knack®).  Tolerances of importance in Florida include banana, peanut, pineapple, potato, rice, sugarcane, bulb vegetable (group 3) except bulb onion, and root and tuber vegetables (group 1).  (Federal Register, 8/15/07).
  •  Based on a request by GB Bioscience Corp., the EPA has approved an edible-podded pea tolerance for the fungicide chlorothalonil (Bravo®).  (Federal Register, 7/27/07).
  •  The Gowan Company has submitted a 2(ee) recommendation for the use of phosmet (Imidan® 70W) to control citrus psyllid on oranges and grapefruit.  (FDACS letter of 8/20/07). 
  •  The EPA is canceling SLN PR-920002 (Mocap® use on pineapple).  (Federal Register, 8/20/07).
  •  The Gowan Company has announced that pyridaben (Nexter®) miticide/insecticide is available again to Florida citrus growers. Field research conducted by the company supports the label claims of highly effective citrus rust mite management.  Data indicate that the compound provides quick knockdown and extended control.  It also may complement a resistance management program. 
  •  On September 12, the FDACS requested a Section 18 emergency exemption from the EPA for use of the fungicide fludioxonil (Scholar®) as a post harvest treatment of carambola for Dothiorella spp. infection.  (FDACS letter of 9/12/07).
